Nominate your colleague for a Heart of Gold Award

Sep 15, 2025
The Railway Benefit Fund’s (RBF) annual Heart of Gold Awards celebrates the extraordinary individuals and teams that make a real difference in the rail industry.

Winners are nominated by their peers for going above and beyond, inspiring colleagues, and making a real difference in their workplace or community. The nomination form is now open on the Heart of Gold Awards website.

There are six categories to choose from, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, proudly sponsored by our scheme administrator, Railpen.

The category awards

  • Rising Star Award - someone relatively new to the rail industry who has already made a big impact
  • Rail Hero Award – an unsung hero who’s acted with exceptional bravery or selflessness
  • Wellbeing Champion Award - someone who goes above and beyond to improve the wellbeing of those around them
  • Star Team Award – a group who have achieved amazing things together in the rail industry
  • Inspirational Volunteer Award – individuals who have volunteered their time and energy to make a significant difference in people’s lives
  • Lifetime Achievement Award – someone who has demonstrated their Heart of Gold throughout a long career in rail

How to nominate your colleagues

If this sounds like anyone you know who works in rail, you can nominate them now by visiting the Heart of Gold Awards website.

Nominations close on 5 October and there will be a public vote to decide the winners in October.

The winners will each get a personalised Heart of Gold Award presented by RBF’s President, Pete Waterman OBE, at a special awards ceremony.

This year’s event will be hosted by Railpen at their London offices on 26 November.
