Brexit and your pension

Article 50 was triggered on 29 March 2017, so is your pension affected?

Now that Brexit is in progress, the UK is expected to withdraw from the EU by March 2019. However, this will not affect your RPS benefits.

The UK is still a member of the EU until March 2019, at least, and pension laws which affect the RPS remain in place, whether they are based on EU legislation or not.

Even once the UK has withdrawn from the EU, there may not be any immediate or significant legal changes for UK pension schemes, as a significant amount of EU pension-related law is already written into UK law.

In addition, we don’t know the terms of withdrawal from the EU which could influence any impact on UK pensions.

Thus, to sum up, the start of the formal process to withdraw from the EU will not affect your RPS benefits. We will keep you informed of any significant developments on this website and in upcoming newsletters.
