New book explores the history of the railway workers’ pensions

Railways Pension Scheme (RPS) Trustee Mick Cash offers a personal perspective on the development of railway pensions and their place in the wider story of the railways.

 

Mick Cash, one of the Railways Pension Scheme Trustees, has written a new book exploring the history of railway workers' pensions and their role in supporting generations of railway families.

Inspired by the 200th anniversary of the modern railway, the book looks back at how pension provision has evolved alongside the railway industry and the people who helped build it.

For generations, railway pensions have played an important role in supporting railway workers and their families. While much of railway history focuses on engineering achievements, famous routes and technological innovation, Mick's book shines a light on the people behind the railway and the systems developed to provide financial security in later life.

Drawing on his long-standing interest in railway history and pensions, Mick traces how pension arrangements developed over time and how they became a valued part of employment in the railway industry.

The book brings together the stories from an often-overlooked aspect of railway heritage, but which continues to matter to railway workers and pensioners today.


The book is now available to buy for £9.99, plus postage and packaging, from A Source of Blessing. All proceeds from the book are going to the Railway Benefit Fund (RBF).
