When did you last talk about your pension?

Nov 2, 2026
Make your pension part of the conversation this Talk Money Week (2-6 November)

Talking about money isn’t always easy. But having a conversation about your finances can be a useful first step towards understanding them better.

This Talk Money Week, why not start a conversation about money with someone you trust?  Your Railways Pension Scheme (RPS) pension can be part of that conversation too.

What could you talk about?

You don’t need to be a pensions expert to start talking.

This year, Talk Money Week’s theme is It All Counts, highlighting how small, manageable actions can make a difference.

Here are five questions you could ask a colleague, friend or family member to get you started:

  • Do you know what kind of pension you have?
  • When did you last check your pension?
  • Do you know roughly what you might get when you retire?
  • Have you thought about when you would like to retire?
  • Do you know where to go if you have a question about your pension?

Even a quick conversation could prompt you to find out something useful about your own finances.

And our 10 things to know about pensions is also a great place to learn more about your RPS pension.

Why talk money?

With the current cost-of-living pressures, getting support for money worries is more important than ever.

Research shows that people who talk about money:
  • make better and less risky financial decisions
  • have stronger personal relationships
  • help their children form good lifetime money habits
  • feel less stressed or anxious and more in control

Talking about money can help build financial confidence and resilience to face financial problems in the future.
